Jodi (Havice) DeArmond

Meet Jodi DeArmond

When Did You Graduate?

December 2007

What are you doing now? Where?

Currently I am St. Xavier Catholic School in Junction City, next year I will be moving to Chapman High School – where I student taught.

What classes are you currently teaching?

At St. Xavier I teach K-7 Computers, Computer Applications, & Yearbook

At Chapman I will be teaching In-House Training I & II (Running the Irish Ink student business), Computer Applications, Advanced Computer Applications, & Accounting

What did you like about the Business Ed Program at FHSU?

The people I meet. I worked with great students and learned so much about how to be a teacher (not just teach) from my professors.

How did BUED at FHSU help you prepare for your current position?

I walked into my position at St. Xavier in January – the room was a disaster and the students hadn’t learned much of anything during the first semester. The BUED program at FHSU helped me to learn quickly and to be prepared to use the resources that I had – not the ones that I wanted. For example – I didn’t get the Mac lab that I wanted, but I made it through & will be working with a new lab of iMacs next year!!

What advice do you have for aspiring teachers?

Network, network, network!! I’ve learned about so much about integrating technology through the people I stay in touch with on Plurk and just recently, Twitter. I also read tons of educational blogs and have currently started my own! http://Iliveilearniteach.blogspot.com

Any other information you would want to share with alumni, current students, faculty, and the general public?

I’ve been working towards my masters in Business Education online from Emporia. I should be finished in December!

Is Dr. Guyot Cupid?

Pictured are Austin and Lyndsey Sander. Mr. and Mrs. Sander are Business Educators at Wichita Heights High School. Although they didn't start teaching in the same building, they are now working together!

Lyndsey is the Wichita Heights DECA Advisor and was recently appointed to the Kansas State Board of Directors (sidenote---there are several FHSU Alumni who are serving on the Kansas DECA Board).

Austin is the Advisor for Wichita Heights Business Professionals of America.

We are proud of Austin and Lyndsey's accomplishments as Business Educators!!

SO.... back to the question, did they meet in Dr. Guyot's class?

What do you think?
